Last week our speaker was Axelle Flemming.  Axelle spoke on the topic of Wellness in the workplace.

Axelle gave some of the benefits of optimal wellness and why it is important in the workplace.  Optimal wellness allows one to be alert and have clarity.  It engages in the area of productivity and effectiveness.  It creates creativity and collaboration.  It creates balance and allows employees to respond vs react and reflect vs attack.  She said that one of our greatest assets were our team-members, coworkers and employees and optimal wellness affects optimal performance.  This is why there is a big initiative to raise awareness of wellness in the corporate world.

Axelle described the pillars of wellness as the body, heart, mind and spirit.  The four pillars are interconnected and we need to focus on all of them.

Axelle noted that it takes intention from a leader, group, team or collective body to bring wellness into the workplace.  Some things that can be done to bring wellness into the workplace are exercise challenges, group/virtual exercise and physical wellness spaces in the office.  A wellness space is a space where someone can go to recharge, meditate, or just have a moment to themselves.  Challenges that require a collaborative effort to do something good and meaningful together promotes wellness.  Groups can have mindfulness moments where they use mindful movement, breath and thoughts, paying attention in that moment.  Teams can also create wellness newsletters to create awareness and give tips.  Wellness events and guest speakers can also be held.

Axelle guided everyone in the meeting through a wellness moment where breathing and meditation exercises were completed.
