PROFILE -  DAVE SHANNON SMITH

Mr. Dave Shannon Smith is the former Executive Director of the Securities Commission of The Bahamas ("SCB"), having taken up the mantle during a time that required intentional and necessary change. Under Dave's directorship, the SCB achieved marked improvement as evidenced by the 2012 Financial Sector Assessment Programme (FSAP).  Along with other key operational and strategic achievements, were  'A' Signatory status to IOSCO's MMoU on 27 December 2012 and the 22 July 2013 signing of MOUs with regulators in the European Union (EU).

Dave has broad financial services industry experience having worked in both offshore and onshore sectors for “marquee names” including Credit Suisse, UBS, Lloyds TSB, MeesPierson, Royal Bank of Canada and Royal Bank of Scotland International.  He held numerous managerial positions covering back & middle office operations, compliance, risk, human resources and change management.

Dave is active in industry and has served in numerous capacities as Board Member and Chair of the Public Hospital Authority Audit and Deputy Chair of the Finance Committees; Executive Vice President, Treasurer and Lecturer at the Bahamas Institute of Financial Services and as a Member and the Bahamas Association of Compliance Officers (BACO) and The Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA).

Dave is a licensed Financial Corporate Service Provider (FCSP), Certified Public Accountant and holds a Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Business Administration from Taylor University, Upland, Indiana.  He is a Fellow of the International Compliance Association (FICA) and The Bahamas Institute of Financial Services (FBIFS).
