RECAP: July 31st Meeting - Dr. Amanda Rahming-Oneil
Dr. Rahming recently delivered a highly informative and engaging speech on the importance of breastfeeding. Key points from the speech included:
Nutritional Benefits: Breast milk provides all the essential nutrients an infant needs in the first six months of life, promoting healthy growth and development.
Immunological Protection: Breastfeeding boosts the baby's immune system, reducing the risk of infections and diseases such as respiratory illnesses, ear infections, and gastrointestinal problems.
Bonding and Emotional Benefits: The act of breastfeeding strengthens the bond between mother and baby, fostering emotional attachment and security.
Long-term Health Benefits: Breastfed infants have a lower risk of developing chronic conditions such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers later in life.
Maternal Health Advantages: Mothers who breastfeed experience quicker postpartum recovery, reduced risk of certain cancers, and improved mental health.
Economic and Environmental Impact: Breastfeeding is cost-effective, reducing the need for formula and associated medical expenses, and it is environmentally friendly, reducing waste and resource consumption.

Recap: August 3rd, 2024 - South East Nassau Rotarians and South East Nassau Centennial Rotaractors joined forces over the weekend to give the Columbus Primary School Library a much needed update and worked tirelessly to reorganize the library, creating a more welcoming and efficient space for students to explore and enjoy books.
The collaborative effort demonstrated the power of community and service in improving educational facilities for young students.
The updated library will provide a conducive environment for reading and learning, fostering a love for books among students. If you missed this weekend, there are more opportunities to get involved as this community service effort is being held every Saturday in August from the 3rd - 24th at 10:00 am at the Columbus Primary School.
