Last week was our regular joint meeting with RCSENC at East Villa. Our guest speaker for the evening was none other than our former Early Act advisor Brittany Turnquest.
Brittany focused on "The importance of fostering a positive and inclusive classroom experience". She guided us through what that looks like as she explained the role of a guidance counselor. We learned that neutral class settings promote inclusivity and diversity, and why this is important to a child's learning experience.
She also explained the importance of understanding adverse childhood experiences (ACES). This includes being able to recognize the signs of abuse, neglect, household challenges, and environmental stressors.
Overall, it was an eye-opening presentation nd the evening ended with RCSENC President Eboni winning a bottle of Uncle Nearest whiskey right in time to have donated it for whiskey night.
1st quarter down, 3 more to go, so much potential left for new membership.
