On March 13th, the Rotary Club of South East Nassau (RCSEN) provided a donation of $1,000 to Doris Johnson Senior High Schoolโs โWe Careโ program for the purchase of hygiene products for students in need.
The donation supports the health, well-being, and dignity of students by providing essential items such as toiletries, sanitary products, and other hygiene-related necessities for both male and female students. This initiative reflects our strong commitment to supporting the local community and ensuring that no student is left without basic resources, regardless of their financial background.
Access to hygiene products is crucial for studentsโ health and mental well-being. The resources afforded by the โWe Careโ program , will go a long way in ensuring that students of Doris Johnson have basic needs met, which in turn will help in reducing absenteeism and fosters a positive and supportive learning environment.
Moreover, RCSENโs donation was made in recognition of our clubโs Water, Sanitation & Hygiene month of activities, and in support of our ongoing efforts to create an equitable educational environment where all students, regardless of their economic situation, have the resources they need to learn and succeed in school.
The cheque from RCSEN was presented to Mr. Kent Lightbourn, Principal of Doris Johnson Senior High School. Also on hand were Ms. Shennan Roberts-White -Ministry of Education District Superintendent for the Northern New Providence,
Secondary District, Mrs. Patricia Williams- Subject Coordinator of the Modern Languages Department & Interact Asst. Advisor , Mrs. Riley-Gabriel- Social Science Educator, and, Mrs. Jessica Darville-Senior Mistress โ
During the presentation, Principal Kent Lightbourn, touted the success of the โWe Careโ program. He notes that the initiative has โalready proven to have a direct impact on improving the lives of the students, offering them dignity and reassuranceโ
Furthermore, as Mr. Lightbourn gratefully accepted the cheque on behalf of the school, he expressed how vital these donations are in helping students feel supported, cared for, and ready to engage in their studies. RCSEN was therefore honoured for the opportunity to assist by way of the donation as it will significantly impact the daily lives of students, allowing them to access hygiene products in a discreet and dignified manner.
The donation made by the Rotary Club of South East Nassau reflects our shared commitment to the education and care of all students, regardless of their circumstances. With this investment, we are taking a meaningful step toward creating a more inclusive, supportive, and healthy school environment for all students.
