At our recent club meeting, the Rotary Club of South East Nassau had the pleasure of hosting representatives from the Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC). The delegation delivered an insightful presentation on BTC's ongoing Copper to Fiber Migration initiative, aimed at modernizing the country’s telecommunications infrastructure.
Members learned about the benefits of fiber-optic technology—including faster internet speeds, improved reliability, and better support for modern digital services. BTC also shared details about the phased rollout of this transition, the impact on residential and business customers, and the steps being taken to ensure a smooth conversion from the aging copper network to fiber.
We extend our thanks to BTC for their engaging and informative session, and for their commitment to advancing The Bahamas’ digital future.

The Rotary Club of South-East Nassau proudly participated as a sponsor in the 10th Annual International Girls in ICT Day, held on today April 24, 2025. This global initiative, led by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and supported locally by URCA Bahamas and its licensees, is designed to promote digital literacy and inspire careers in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) among young women.
Through our sponsorship, the Club enabled four young ladies and one chaperone from Central Andros High School, to attend the event in person. East Nassau sponsored the same for RN Gomez Compressive School, Berry Islands.
The students were able to benefit from direct exposure to women leaders in technology, interactive learning experiences, and motivational sessions focused on future careers in ICT fields.
Our support made a meaningful difference by bridging the access gap for Family Island students who may otherwise have been unable to participate in such an empowering initiative.

Rotarians Give Back: Bench Repairs at Columbus Primary
In true Rotary spirit, members of the Rotary Club of South East Nassau rolled up their sleeves and visited Columbus Primary School to carry out much-needed bench repairs. Several benches on the school grounds had fallen into disrepair, and our Rotarians were more than happy to step in and restore them for the comfort and benefit of the students.
The hands-on project reflects our club’s ongoing commitment to supporting education and enhancing learning environments for young minds. A heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers who brought their tools, time, and teamwork to make this service effort a success.
