Past President Lillian Shares Passion for Bird Watching in The Bahamas
At a recent luncheon meeting, the Rotary Club of South East Nassau had the pleasure of welcoming Past President Lillian as our guest speaker. A dedicated Rotarian and avid nature enthusiast, PP Lillian captivated the audience with an engaging presentation on the topic: “Bird Watching in The Bahamas.”
PP Lillian highlighted the Bahamas’ unique place as a vital habitat for a diverse array of bird species—both resident and migratory. With over 340 species recorded across the islands, bird watching has become not only a peaceful pastime but also an important part of local ecotourism and conservation efforts.
She shared fascinating facts about endemic species such as the Bahama Woodstar and the Bahama Swallow, emphasizing their role in the ecosystem and the importance of preserving natural habitats. Members were intrigued to learn how bird watching contributes to environmental awareness and scientific research, and how even urban areas like Nassau can be excellent locations for spotting a variety of birds.
PP Lillian also encouraged members to take up bird watching as a relaxing and educational outdoor activity that connects people with nature and raises awareness about the importance of protecting biodiversity in our islands.
We thank PP Lillian for sharing her passion and knowledge, and for reminding us that sometimes, making a difference begins with simply looking up.
