Last week our speaker was Raymond Charles who is a new member of the Rotary Club of South-East Nassau. Raymond is a director at Atlantis Bahamas and is an Application Architect. Raymond loves history, especially Afro-Caribbean history. He told the club how he had a passing interest in medicine at a younger age but decided that it was not for him and got into the IT field. Raymond described application architecture as the process of defining the framework of an organization's application solutions against business requirements. Raymond and his team evaluates every app before it is allowed to be used at Atlantis and ensure that the app meets the business requirements, is reliable, scalable, provides the functionality needed and is secure. Application architecture reduces business costs by identifying redundancies, identifying gaps in essential services, creating an enterprise platform for application accessibility and third-party integration, allowing systems to be modular and easier to maintain and helping software align with the company's overall business objectives. Raymond has made great strides in the IT field and aspires to one day manage the entire IT department.
