Last week our speaker was Bodine Johnson. Bodine is a Bahamian singer, entertainer and educator who started hosting television at the age of 19 and then went into radio.
Bodine is skilled in the delivery of pedagogy through the use of multimedia. We learned about some of her experiences in teaching and we were told about creative partnerships in education.
Creative education and content making integrating multimedia in education was one of the things she spoke about. Her job as a multimedia education officer was created from a need that arose during the pandemic. During the pandemic it was difficult for teachers to teach online because of the copyright laws surrounding the media used and because some of the content needed for teaching was not available digitally. During this period teachers had to create content that aligned with our curriculum needs by themselves. Those valuable contributions are now housed in a digital repository.
Bodine showed that when we expose children to the content that reflects the communities they are a part of, we understand the societal dynamics and see issues and problems that need to adjust. Bodine and her colleagues create content with their partners to empower children by presenting content in unique ways that provide the information the children need in a manner that fits with the modern technological advances. She encouraged others to partner with the Ministry of Education & Technical and Vocational Training.
